75th Anniversary of Seaford Stamp Club
The Stamp Club was formed in 1933 and its members are proud of the fact that it is one of the oldest clubs in Sussex. With that in mind the membership wanted to have a 75th Anniversary Year that would be remembered and would help to promote the hobby of stamp collecting in the local area as well as throughout Sussex.
The Committee applied and were successful in gaining a grant from The National Lottery “Awards for All” to fund a number of activities through 2008 and 2009. Thus the celebrations started with a “75th Anniversary Exhibition” on May 24th 2008.
Members and stallholders prepare for the exhibition. The exhibition was based in Cross Way Hall, Clinton Place, Seaford, East Sussex. The main hall housed the dealers and displays by speakers.
The President, Chairman and Lady Mayor of Seaford welcome the members and open proceedings. The first display already to ‘role’ in the background.
The club had a cake made specially for the occasion. Visitors and members ‘guessed the weight’ which enabled the club to raise funds for its work. The cake was cut up by the WI who supported the event and distributed amongst all those who helped on the day.
The first speaker Mr Chris Oliver, President of the National Philatelic Society gave a display and talk based around ‘Harmers collection of Forgeries’. We are grateful to Chris and Harmers for his time and material being released for display.
